For the past several months I’ve been making plans. Those plans had some assumptions (ok, one big assumption) that they were built around. Turns out things change. My big client who said ‘oh, we got budget for you for 3 years’ suddenly got their budget cut. I’m not really that surprised. They didn’t need a big gun like me for what they were doing and the only really good thing about the project was telecomuting.
So those plans I had built - I’m changing them a little but the overall shape of things isn’t going to change. The one thing that will change now though is that landing another W2/1099 contract is not plan A. Plan A is to get two additional customers for Engine of Progress to replace my other client. The one thing that does scare me a bit is cashflow. Before Engine of Progress wasn’t going to be paying me immediately because I had this other gig. That way Engine of Progress’s money could mostly go toward marketing and building up working capital.
Anyway, I’m a bit stressed by this but it isn’t a big deal, this is what being a contractor entails. There is a process I follow that has always been successful and it will work again. While landing a new W2 contract isn’t plan A. I’m still going to run the process as if it were. But I will be in a foot race to see if I can get work for Engine of Progress before a client comes along and makes an offer that is hard to resist.
Wish me luck.
