So if the economy is slowing down (or has already crashed) why am I so friggin busy?
I’ve got my current main project which has now reached a boiling point that has me properly motivated. I’m half way through my book and I plan to write the last half over the next two weeks while my wife edits the first half. I’m about to help some new friends scope out some BizTalk work….so what happened to this slow down thing everybody has been talking about so much?
I’m honestly not complaining. I like the feeling of being too busy. I’ve tied getting my new bike to finishing the book. The only two things prevented me from getting a new bike over the weekend. First was that by the time I broke it was 8:00pm Saturday night. Luckily (?) motorcycle shops are closed on Sundays. Second is my wife telling me to wait a little longer. We’re working on a few objectives for me to achieve before I get a shiny new 848 to replace the one I accidently killed.
Listening to the news these days it is really easy to lose your mind and get really depressed. All you hear about is how bad things are. This is why I quit watching TV and have begun avoiding news. I know that denying what is going on doesn’t prevent it, but it does change how I feel and allow me to continue doing what I believe needs to be done. I don’t need the news to do my job so I do without it.
But even with all of these bad stories that keep getting blasted out things are still happening. Business is still being done. Businesses are still starting. The world doesn’t stop because a bunch of idiot journalists say it should. Besides, as soon as Obama takes office the story will change. By February all you’ll hear about is how the economy has turned the corner. I wonder if I can get a money line for the date the first news anchor on CNN says ‘soft landing’.
Anyway – People can go and hibernate and try to survive this event. I think this is no different than any other time in history. There is opportunity and always has been. The only question is whether or not you have the courage to take it.
