Read "3-day cooling off period".
J.D. talks about having a policy to buy stuff from students selling stuff door to door because of his past experience doing the same thing. Both of my daughters are in Girl Scouts (or Brownies) so they sell cookies as part of the fund raiser. My older daughter also sells cookies on her own. So I guess I'm OK with students doing it. However....
Anything I want to buy I've either ordered through Amazon or gone to the store to buy. Services like TruGreen or Terminix were ordered over the phone. If you are knocking on my door to sell me something you are wasting your time. Even students. I already have a subscription to Wired. If I want any other magazines I'll order them online. I also don't appreciate what I perceive as a manipulative sales approach by using students.
The usual line is that the student is going to get scholarship money or something if they can reach a certain goal. I always wonder - why not get a job at Taco Bell or deliver pizzas? Set aside a portion of the money you earn for your own scholarship. That way there isn't any question about reaching your goal - just work the hours and the goal will take care of itself.
But then again, I'm pretty naive about such things.
